Easy Chocolate Croissants

Who knew fancy could be this easy? A decadent chocolate treat made with only 3 ingredients and ready in just 30 minutes!

These easiest chocolate croissants (pain au chocolat) are a quick take on the French classic. Made using store-bought puff pastry, these croissants are flaky, chocolatey and dangerously good 🤤🍫✨ Perfect for breakfast, brunch or as an evening snack with a cuppa ☕️

INGREDIENTS YOU'LL NEED!

All steps and ingredients with their exact quantities are mentioned in the recipe card below.

  • Ready to roll store-bought Puff pastry
  • Chocolate chips: Dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips.
  • One egg: For egg wash. It is used to brush on top of the croissants before baking to give them a golden brown colour.
  • Icing sugar/powdered sugar: To sprinkle on top of croissants after baking for a pretty look.

DIRECTIONS

  • Preheat the Fan oven to 160C/330F (for conventional oven, 180C/356F) and line a large baking sheet with baking paper.
  • Gently unroll the puff pastry sheet.
  • Cut the puff pastry sheet in half vertically then slice each half into five equal rectangles. You’ll end up with 10 rectangles.
  • Place some chocolate chips in the centre of each rectangle. Fold one short side over the chips, press gently, then fold the other side on top and seal with a gentle press. Lightly moisten the seam with a wet finger to better seal the pastry and prevent it from unfolding while baking.
  • Place the pastries seam-side down on the baking sheet to keep them sealed while baking.
  • Brush the top of each pastry with an egg wash (whisk an egg using a fork).
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until flakey and golden brown in colour.
  • Let them cool slightly, then dust the top of each croissant with icing sugar.
  • Melt some chocolate chips in the microwave and drizzle on these croissants. Enjoy 😊

How to store these croissants!

These are best served when warm and freshly baked however leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. Before serving, you can reheat them again in a preheated oven for 4-5 minutes.

I hope that you'll try this recipe and you'll love them as much as my family and I do! If you make this recipe then be sure to tag @kaotickrunch on Instagram. We'd love to see your creations!

Happy baking and eating! 😊
